Otolaryngology is commonly referred to as ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) or Otorhinolaryngology. What is Otolaryngology? The word "Otolaryngology" is derived from the Greek words oto (ear), rhino (nose), and larynx (throat). Who have to finish their studies in Otolaryngology, mainly focused on ear disorders such as hearing loss, ear infections, etc. Nasal and Sinus disorders, Throat and Voice disorders, Head and Neck Tumors, and all. Otolaryngologists are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors in the head and neck region, including the thyroid, salivary glands, throat, mouth, and larynx. Otolaryngologists undergo several years of specialized training after completing medical studies, including residency programs focused on the medical, medical management, and surgical treatment of conditions related to the ear, nose, throat, and related structures.

Eligibility Criteria: 

A Candidate must have completed their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as a core subject from a recognized board/ university is required. After Intermediate, you must possess an MBBS from a recognized Medical Institution. I also undertake a 1-year internship to gain practical knowledge and get 2- 3 years of an M. S (ENT) program. The need to take entrance exams for postgraduate level is AIIMS/ NEET- PG etc. You can choose as per your interest in the subject of specializations in ENT.

How to get into that career? Obtain a Bachelor of Medicine/ MBBS degree Then, pass the NEET entrance exam. After completing the MBBS, you need to pursue a Postgraduate degree in Otolaryngology/ ENT. The specializations are typically, MS (Master of Surgery) in Otolaryngology or MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Otorhinolaryngology. Admission to these programs is usually through a competitive entrance examination through different institutions/ universities. Studies, you will get trained in the diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of ear, nose, throat, and head and neck disorders. This training is essential to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to practice as an ENT specialist.
