Japan has identified a vast deposit of rare earth elements nearly 6,000 metres beneath the Pacific Ocean near Minamitorishima island. The discovery, described as a “rare earth giant,” could significantly reshape global resource security by providing a long-term supply of critical minerals essential for modern technologies.
Argentina has formally withdrawn from the World Health Organization (WHO), Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno confirmed. He said the country had communicated its decision through a formal note to the United Nations Secretary-General. In line with the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, the withdrawal has now taken effect one year after the notification.
Indonesia will ban social media for children under 16, the countrys communication and digital affairs minister, Meutya Hafid, said on 6 March 2026. Hafid said she has already signed a government regulation that means children under the age of 16 can no longer have accounts on high-risk digital platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
