Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India.

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Semicon India 2025 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi on 2 September 2025.

♦ The conference, themed “Building a Robust, Resilient and Sustainable Semiconductor Ecosystem”, will run until September 4.

♦ It has brought together more than 20,000 participants, including CEOs of leading global chipmakers, policymakers, innovators, and students from across the country. 

♦ Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday presented the first made-in-India 32-bit processor chip named  Vikram-32 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inaugural ceremony of Semicon India 2025.

♦ The chip developed by ISRO’s Semiconductor Lab, along with test chips from four approved projects.

♦ The Vikram-32 is an engineering marvel, specifically designed and qualified to operate within the punishing conditions of space launch vehicles.

♦ It is built to withstand extreme temperatures and environmental stresses, a critical requirement for ensuring the reliability of space missions.

♦ Developed and fabricated at SCL's facility in Mohali, the 32-bit processor is capable of handling complex instructions and floating-point arithmetic, making it ideal for the demanding computations needed for satellite launches and vehicle guidance.

Narendra Modi

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging and productive talks with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong in New Delhi  on 4 September 2025.

♦ Five MoUs were concluded in important fields, including cooperation on a green and digital shipping corridor, promoting collaboration in the space sector, cooperation in training and R&D in the field of civil aviation, and cooperation in digital asset innovation.

♦ The two leaders adopted a Roadmap for Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

♦ The Roadmap reflects the depth of bilateral cooperation and provides direction and momentum to it.

♦ This Roadmap will facilitate bilateral engagements across eight priority areas.

♦ These include economic cooperation, skills development, digitisation, sustainability, connectivity, healthcare and medicine, defence and security cooperation, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

BHARATI

♦ The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) launched its new initiative, BHARATI, to boost India’s agri-food exports.

♦ BHARATI has been designed to support 100 agri-food startups, promote innovation and boost exports to 50 billion dollars by 2030.

♦ BHARATI stands for Bharat’s Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Enablement.

♦ Aligned with the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Startup India, APEDA aims to accelerate export, foster innovation and strengthen India’s position in global agri-food trade.

Tata Electronics Private Limited

♦ On 2 September 2025, Tata Electronics Private Limited and Merck  signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing India’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing capabilities.

♦ The partnership will focus on semiconductor materials, fabrication infrastructure, and specialty chemical and gas distribution in India.

♦ Under the MoU, Merck will provide its complete range of products and services, including high-purity electronic materials, advanced gas and chemical delivery systems, turnkey fab infrastructure services for Tata Electronics’ upcoming Fab in Dholera, Gujarat. 

♦ The partnership further extends to localised warehousing, development of raw material supply chains, talent cultivation, and the establishment of industry standards in India.

♦ The MoU aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission and marks a significant step in establishing indigenous semiconductor capabilities.

♦ Tata Electronics is investing Rs 91,000 crore (USD 11 billion) to build India’s first semiconductor Fab in Dholera, which will manufacture chips for automotive, mobile devices, AI, and other key sectors for global customers.
