Meetings

India and Brazilagreements

♦ India and Brazil signed six agreements on 8 July 2025, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit, covering cooperation in security, digital infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, and intellectual property.

♦ The agreements include a pact on combating international terrorism and transnational organized crime, as well as a memorandum on the exchange of large-scale digital solutions to support digital transformation.

♦ Both countries agreed to collaborate in renewable energy and agricultural research, with an MoU signed between Brazil’s EMBRAPA and India’s Council of Agricultural Research.

♦ An agreement was also signed for the exchange and mutual protection of classified information.

♦ Additionally, an MoU on intellectual property was inked between India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Brazil’s Secretariat of Competitiveness and Regulatory Policy under the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services.

♦ India and Brazil also announced the establishment of a ministerial-level mechanism to monitor trade, commerce, and investment between the two countries.

Prasar Bharati and Handball Association of India (HAI)

♦ Prasar Bharati and Handball Association of India (HAI) have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to produce and broadcast all national and international handball events.

♦ These events will be broadcast on DD Sports, Waves OTT, and other Prasar Bharati platforms.

♦ The agreement was formally exchanged by Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer Gaurav Dwivedi and Executive Director of Handball Association of India Anandeshwar Pande.

♦ The MoU aims to significantly boost the sport’s reach and nurture talent in the country.

Modi meets Netumbo

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at the State House in Windhoek on 9 July 2025.

♦ This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Namibia in 27 years and is also the first bilateral state visit hosted by Nandi-Ndaitwah since she assumed office in March 2025.

♦ During their talks, the two leaders discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including defence, maritime security, digital technology and UPI, agriculture, health and pharmaceuticals, energy, and critical minerals.

♦ They welcomed the steady growth in trade and called for expediting discussions on an India-SACU Preferential Trade Agreement to unlock greater economic potential.

♦ India and Namibia also signed two Memorandums of Understanding: one to set up an Entrepreneurship Development Centre in Namibia and another to strengthen collaboration in health and medicine.

♦ Among other key announcements, Namibia submitted letters of acceptance to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and the Global Biofuels Alliance.

♦ In addition to this, Namibia became the first country in the world to sign a licensing agreement to adopt India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) technology.

BRICS Summit

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the President of Uruguay, Yamandu Orsi, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 7 July 2025.

♦ During their meeting, the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions covering the full spectrum of bilateral relations.

♦ They reviewed cooperation in areas such as digital collaboration, information and communication technology (ICT), Digital Public Infrastructure and Unified Payments Interface (UPI), defence, railways, health and pharmaceuticals, agriculture, energy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

BRICS Summit

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 6 July 2025.

♦ He addressed the inaugural session on "Reform of Global Governance and Peace and Security”.  

♦ He also urged for higher priority for the global south in policy making. Making his views clear, the Prime Minister noted that the global south often faces double standards about development, distribution of resources, and security related matters.

Narendra Modi

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Argentine President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires on 5 July 2025 and discussed cooperation in the energy and critical minerals sectors.

♦ India and Argentina are to strengthen collaboration in critical minerals, shale gas, defence manufacturing, space, telemedicine, digital health solutions and information technology.

♦ The two sides decided to work towards a preferential trade agreement and  faster approval towards Indian medicines, and adoption of the UPI system after the bilateral meeting.

♦ This is the first Indian bilateral visit to Argentina at the level of the Prime Minister in 57 years. It is Modi’s second visit to the country as Prime Minister – he was there in 2018 for the G20 Summit.

India and Trinidad agreements

♦ India and Trinidad and Tobago inked six agreements to shore up their cooperation in several sectors, including infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and culture following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Kamla Persad-Bissessar on 4 July 2025.

♦ The two leaders also explored potential collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare and digital transformation, unified payments interface (UPI), capacity building and people-to-people exchanges. 

♦ It is the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to this Caribbean island nation since 1999.

Prime Minister meets John Dramani Mahama

♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Accra on a two-day state visit to Ghana on 2 July 2025.

♦ He met Ghanaian President Dr. John Dramani Mahama in Accra.

♦ The two leaders held detailed discussions in both restricted and delegation-level formats, agreeing to elevate bilateral ties to the level of a Comprehensive Partnership.

♦ India and Ghana signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas such as culture, health, standardisation, and institutional dialogue.

♦ The four Memoranda of Understanding signed between India and Ghana include a Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP), aimed at promoting greater cultural understanding and exchanges in the fields of art, music, dance, literature, and heritage.

♦ The second MoU, signed between the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), seeks to enhance cooperation in standardisation, certification, and conformity assessment.

♦ The third agreement was signed between the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine (ITAM), Ghana, and the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), India, to facilitate collaboration in traditional medicine education, training, and research.

♦ The fourth MoU relates to the Joint Commission Meeting, which aims to institutionalise high-level dialogue and ensure regular reviews of bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

♦ This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in more than three decades and marks PM Modi’s first bilateral engagement with the West African nation.
