Pulitzer Prize 2025 winners list was announced

♦ One of the most prestigious recognitions in journalism, the Pulitzer Prize 2025 winners list was announced.

♦ The New York Times secured four awards across multiple categories.

♦ The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal also received honours for their high-impact reporting on key political and societal issues.

♦ The New York Times earned top honours in four categories, including breaking news photography.

♦ Veteran photojournalist Doug Mills won the award for framing the attempted assassination of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump on 2024 July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.

♦ His photograph captured a bullet narrowly missing Trump during a campaign speech.

♦ The Times also received awards in other categories for its wide-ranging coverage of global and national stories, including its reporting on the conflict in Gaza.

Public Service: Kavitha Surana, Lizzie Presser, Cassandra Jaramillo & Stacy Kranitz for reporting on deaths of pregnant women due to unclear abortion law exceptions.
Breaking News Reporting: The Washington Post staff for coverage of the July 13 Trump assassination attempt, using visual/audio forensics.
Investigative Reporting: Reuters staff for exposing how weak global regulations enable cheap and easy access to fentanyl.
Explanatory Reporting: Azam Ahmed, Christina Goldbaum & Matthieu Aikins (NYT) for detail how US support of violent militias undermined efforts in Afghanistan.
Local Reporting: Alissa Zhu, Nick Thieme & Jessica Gallagher (Baltimore Banner & NYT) for analyzing Baltimore’s fentanyl crisis and its impact on older Black men.
National Reporting: The Wall Street Journal staff for investigating Elon Musk’s political shift, drug use, and ties with global figures.
International Reporting: Declan Walsh & NYT staff for uncovering foreign interference and atrocities in Sudan’s ongoing conflict.
Feature Writing: Mark Warren (Esquire) for a profile of a pastor/mayor who died by suicide after online exposure.
Commentary: Mosab Abu Toha (The New Yorker) for essays on the toll of the war in Gaza.
Criticism: Alexandra Lange (Bloomberg CityLab) for writing on public spaces and architecture that support families.
Editorial Writing: Raj Mankad, Sharon Steinmann, Lisa Falkenberg & Leah Binkovitz (Houston Chronicle) for a series on deadly train crossings and community risks.
Illustrated Reporting & Commentary: Ann Telnaes (Washington Post) for bold visual commentary on powerful institutions and figures.
Breaking News Photography: Doug Mills (New York Times) for capturing the moment a bullet flew past Trump during the assassination attempt.
Feature Photography: Moises Saman (The New Yorker) for stark black-and-white photos from Syria’s Sednaya prison.

Deepika Kumari

♦ India’s top archer, Deepika Kumari clinched a bronze medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 held in Shanghai on 11 May 2025.  

♦ After a tough semifinal loss to world No. 1 Lim Sihyeon, Deepika displayed remarkable resilience and composure to defeat Korea’s Kang Chae Young 7-3 in the bronze medal playoff.

Mens and Womens Player of the Year awards for the 2024-25

♦ Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s Subhasish Bose and East Bengal’s Soumya Guguloth were honoured with the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) prestigious Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year awards for the 2024-25 season, held in Bhubaneswar on 2 May 2025.

♦ The awards recognised their pivotal contributions to two of the most successful seasons in their clubs’ recent history. 

♦ Bose, the tireless left-back and Mohun Bagan’s defensive pillar, played a central role in the club’s record-breaking campaign that saw them clinch both the Indian Super League (ISL) Shield and Cup titles.

♦ Soumya Guguloth, East Bengal’s midfield dynamo, was equally influential in the club’s maiden Indian Women’s League (IWL) triumph.

♦ She ended the campaign as the third-highest goalscorer with nine goals, including the decisive strike in East Bengal’s 1-0 title-clinching win over Odisha FC on April 11 in Kolkata.

♦ Khalid Jamil was awarded Best Men’s Coach and Sujata Kar received the Best Women’s Coach honour.

♦ Vishal Kaith and Elangbam Panthoi Chanu were named Best Goalkeepers in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

♦ Rising stars Brison Fernandes and Toijam Thoibisana Chanu were recognised as the Most Promising Players of the Year.
