India wins Asia Cup hockey

♦ The Indian men’s hockey team were crowned Asia Cup 2025 champions on 7 September 2025.

♦ They defeated the Republic of Korea 4-1 in the final at the Rajgir Sports Complex in Bihar.

♦ With the win, India ended their eight-year wait to regain their title and qualified for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 in the Netherlands and Belgium. 

♦ This is India's fourth Asia Cup title, having earlier won the tournament in 2003, 2007 and 2017.

♦ South Korea have won the tournament five times -- in 1994, 1999, 2009, 2013 and 2022.

Carlos Alcaraz

♦ Carlos Alcaraz won his second U.S. Open men’s singles title by defeating Jannik Sinner with 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on 8 September 2025 held in New York.

♦ The 22-year-old Spaniard now owns six Grand Slam trophies, becoming the first player since 1978 to win multiple majors on all three surfaces before turning 23.

♦ Alcaraz has become only the second player ever to defeat the world No. 1 in multiple Grand Slam finals within a single season, following Nadal’s famous wins over Roger Federer at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 2008.

Aryna Sabalenka

♦ World no.1 Aryna Sabalenka won her second consecutive US Open title in the Women’s Singles final on 7 September 2025.

♦ Belarusian Sabalenka defeated American eighth seed Amanda Anisimova 6-3 7-6(3) in the final.

♦ The win marked her fourth Grand Slam singles title, cementing her status as one of tennis’ top players.

♦ Aryna Sabalenka became the first player to win back-to-back Women’s singles titles at the US Open since Serena Williams accomplished the feat in 2012–2014.

♦ Spanish-Argentine duo of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos clinched the men’s doubles title after defeating the British pair of Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski in the final.
