The Ministry of Education, Government of India, implements the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections.

National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme 2025-26
Type: Central Sector Scholarship (Merit-cum-means based)
Eligibility:
Students must be studying in Class VIII in a Government, Government-aided, or local body school. They must have scored at least 55% marks in Class VII (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students) to appear for the selection test. The student’s parental income from all sources must not exceed Rs.3,50,000 per annum.
Not eligible: Students from Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, residential schools run by governments, and private schools.
Age: There is no specific age limit mentioned, but students must be of the appropriate age for Class VIII (typically 13-15 years).
How to Apply:
Students must apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The application must be filled online and verified by school/institution authorities and the concerned State/UT government. Students must also appear for the MAT and SAT exams conducted by the state education department.
Pattern of examination:
Mental Ability Test (MAT): 90 Multiple Choice Questions. 90 Marks & Each question carries one mark. No negative marking
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): 90 Multiple Choice Questions. 90 Marks Covering social science, science and mathematics of class VII & VIII. Each question carries one mark. No negative marking.
