World Day Against Human Trafficking

♦ As a part of the global campaign of initiating actions against human trafficking, the World Day Against Trafficking In Persons is observed on July 30 every year.

♦ According to the Global Report of Trafficking in Persons (GLOTIP) by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), children are twice as likely as adults to face violence during trafficking.

♦ On this day, communities worldwide come together to support each other and raise awareness about human trafficking.

♦ The United Nations General Assembly established the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons back in 2013.

♦ This step was taken as a part of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which was adopted in 2010.

♦ 2025 theme:  “Human trafficking is Organized Crime - End the Exploitation”.

♦ India's largest and oldest paramilitary force, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), celebrated its 87th Raising Day on 27 July 2025.

♦ The Force, originally raised as the Crown Representative’s Police on 27th July 1939, was rechristened as the Central Reserve Police Force in 1949.

♦ It playing a pivotal role in safeguarding the internal security of the nation.

Income Tax Day

♦ The Income Tax Day is celebrated every year on July 24.

♦ This day commemorates the introduction of income tax in India by Sir James Wilson in 1860.

♦ While this initial implementation laid the groundwork, it was the comprehensive Income Tax Act of 1922 that truly established a structured tax system in the country.

♦ This Act not only formalised various income tax authorities but also laid the foundation for a systematic administration framework.

♦ The Central Board of Revenue Act, 1924 strengthened the structure of India's tax administration, appointing Commissioners of Income-tax for each province.

♦ Group A officers were recruited in 1946, and the establishment of the IRS Staff College in Nagpur in 1957 strengthened professional development.

National Broadcasting Day

♦ National Broadcasting Day is observed every year on July 23 to commemorate the start of organised radio broadcasting in India with the formation of the Indian Broadcasting Company (IBC) in 1927.

♦ The IBC’s birth marks the start of organised radio broadcasting in the country, which is now celebrated as the annual National Broadcasting Day.

♦ On the 8th of June, 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio (AIR).

♦ This day highlights the pivotal role broadcasting has played in India’s development, educational outreach, and cultural preservation.

♦ Broadcasting has played a crucial role in India’s development. In 1956, the name AKASHVANI was adopted for the National Broadcaster.

♦ The Vividh Bharati Service was launched in 1957 with popular film music as its main component.

International Chess Day

Nelson Mandela International Day

♦ Nelson Mandela International Day (Mandela Day) is observed every year on July 18 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela.

♦ The United Nations officially designated this day in November 2009.

♦ Mandela became South Africa’s first democratically elected president from 1994 to 1999.

♦ He was the recipient of more than 250 awards, including the Nobel Prize.

♦ The United Nations General Assembly instituted the Nelson Mandela Prize in 2014 to honour those who have dedicated their lives to serving humanity.

World Population Day

♦ World Population Day is observed every year on July 11 to spread awareness about population-related issues,  highlights important topics like family planning, gender equality, and reproductive health.

♦ The idea of World Population Day began in the 1980s. On July 11, 1987, the world’s population reached around five billion, drawing global attention to important issues like population growth, use of resources, and sustainable development.

♦ In 1989, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Governing Council decided that July 11 should be observed every year as World Population Day.

♦ Later, in December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly officially approved this through Resolution 45/216.

♦ The first celebration of World Population Day took place on July 11, 1990, and over 90 countries participated in the event.

♦ 2025 theme: “Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world"

International Plastic Bag Free Day

♦ International Plastic Bag Free Day is observed annually on July 3 to inspire a global shift away from single-use plastics and towards a pollution-free world.

♦ The International Plastic Bag Free Day was founded by Bag Free World, an organisation dedicated to promoting a plastic-free world through various campaigns.

♦ Rezero, a member of Zero Waste Europe (ZWE), launched the first Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3, 2008.
