♦ World Animal Day is observed every year on October 4 to raise awareness about animal welfare and advocating for the rights of animals. This day was first celebrated on March 24, 1925, at the Sports Palace in Berlin, Germany. In 1931, the day was officially shifted to October 4.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) is celebrated every year in India on October 31 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. The day aims to promote national integration and unity among citizens, highlighting Patel's efforts to unify the nation post-independence. This day was first observed in 2014.

National Ayurveda Day

National Ayurveda Day is observed every year on 29 October. This day has been marked every year since 2016 on the occasion of Dhanwantri Jayanti. This day is marked to spread awareness on the importance of Ayurveda in our daily lives. In 2024, more than 150 countries across the globe have geared up for Ayurveda Day.

International Animation Day

International Animation Day is observed every year on October 28 to honour the artists, who inspire people through their animations.

This day was launched in 2002 by the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA), a part of UNESCO. 

ASIFA created the IAD in 2002, honoring the birth of animation, recognized as the first public performance of projected moving images: Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique in Paris, on the 28th October 1892.

United Nations Day

United Nations Day is observed every year on October 24. It marks the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in 1945. This date marks the entry into force of the UN Charter, a foundational document outlining the organisation's goals and structure. In 1971, the UN General Assembly officially declared October 24 as United Nations Day, encouraging member states to observe the day with appropriate activities.

Global Iodine Deficiency Day

 Global Iodine Deficiency Day is observed every year on October 21 to raise awareness about the critical role of iodine in our health.

 This day is also known as Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day. In 2002, various organisations came up with various awareness programs and with more time, more countries started joining the cause, and it became World Iodine Deficiency Day.

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

World Students Day

♦ World Student's Day is observed every year on October 15 in memory of the late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former president, educator and aeronautical scientist. The United Nations declared his birthday (on October 15) as ‘World Students’ Day’ in 2010. He was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

World Standards Day

♦ World Standards Day is celebrated every year on October 14 to raise awareness and increase understanding of the importance of standardization. It is a collaborative initiative of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), who each year develop campaign elements to empower the global community. This day was first observed in 1946.

♦ The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is observed every year on October 13. It focusing on the crucial role of education in protecting and empowering children for a disaster-resilient future. The day aims to raise awareness and promote a culture of disaster reduction and risk awareness around the world. This day was started in 1989, after a call by the United Nations General Assembly for a day to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction.

Indian Air Force (IAF) Day

♦ Indian Air Force (IAF) Day is celebrated every year on October 8 to commemorate the formation of Indian Air Force (IAF). 2024 marks the 92nd anniversary of the IAF. It was established as an auxiliary air force of the Royal Air Force of Britain on 8 October, 1932. In 1950, the Royal Indian Air Force became the Indian Air Force. IAF has fought four conflicts with Pakistan in 1947-1948, 1965, 1971 (Bangladesh War) and 1999(Kargil War).

♦ 2024 theme:  “Bhartiya Vayu Sena - Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar” (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant).

World Cotton Day

World Cotton Day is observed every year on October 7 to highlight the significant role in maintaining economic stability in the countries which are producing it. The World Trade Organisation (WTO) hosted the first World Cotton Day on 7 October 2019, in response to an initiative of the Cotton- 4 countries, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali.

♦ World Cerebral Palsy Day is observed every year on October 6 to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of individuals living with Cerebral Palsy. This day was founded in 2012 by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. World CP Day has since grown into a global network, with 144 partner organisations in 45 countries. World CP Day is a worldwide initiative that aims to bring attention to the challenges experienced by individuals with CP and advocate for equal rights, opportunities, and inclusion in society.

♦ World Teachers' Day is observed every year on October 5 to honour teachers’ crucial role to build the future of a country. This day was established by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994. This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2007.  The decision was inspired by the principles of non-violence promoted by Mahatma Gandhi. International Day of Older Persons

International Day of Older Persons is observed every year on October 1 to raise public awareness about the opportunities and challenges presented to the ageing populations and to mobilize families, community groups and stakeholders to address the difficulties faced by older people. On 14 December 1990, the UN General Assembly made October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons. This day was first celebrated in 1991.
