Vikram Misri

The government has extended the tenure of foreign secretary Vikram Misri until 14 July 2026. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the extension beyond the date of his superannuation on November 30. 

Misri is a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. He assumed charge as foreign secretary on 15 July 2024.

Prior to his appointment as the foreign secretary, Misri was deputy national security advisor.

He took the role in the National Security Council Secretariat in January 2022, where he reported to NSA Ajit Doval.
